2 Star Kayaking Awards with Wilson on 24 feb, 3, 4 march07
1st day -------
Morning was too consentrated on handling equipment in the morning and capsize drills in the , so only managed to do covered 1star skills and basic x rescue.
Lots of things forgot to recap!
Many mixtake does and sound like an unplanned trainer.
2nd day =====
Morning suppose to revisit 1 star skills for my student, due to let of time, i proceed to expedition. When back to changi was early, and i sent the student for lunch. And covered the kayak design before lunch.
After lunch covered Took a long time to covered the hip frick n eskimo bow rescue.
Covered Low recovery and low brace turn
Back to club, keep back the equipment, covered the paddle design and read of tide and tide table.
3rd day =====
Wilson purposily change enviroment, see my reaction.
I found out that too sticked to plan, n let of fexiblilty when coaching in a new enviroment.
Morn 1st lesson after the student ready the equipment, I gathered them and briefed abt the creek enviroment. The tide was almost covered the whole creek, I still proceed to kayak to swimmer rescue. After the demo and briefing of safety and proceed one pratical, wilson suggest me to stopped the activity, and proceed to basic skill 1st.
Like forward, backward stroke, j stroke, classic draw.
Then he asked everyone, got ready to launch off and I was launch off at the sea 1st. I asked everyone warmed up with sweep stroke. After a while i ask the rest to formed raft and i proceed to all the basic stroke again, and i was too detailed. It was took a long long time to end the session of every session.
It was quite a while then finally i proceed to 2star skills
Low recovery
Low brace turn
X rescue.
Then we proceed to lunch time, coz he want to end the session early.
After lunch wilson he took over, he coached them
sculling draw, High recovery, bow rudder, recap on eskimo bow rescue.
When come to eskimo bow rescue, he brought the rest back to shore. Also asked one by one show him. And then i entertained those student who finished the eskimo bow rescue, washed kayak and put back the rack. After evryone finished, i asked them took own self equipment and put back the rack.
After the student bath, wilson signed the cert and debrief the student and releast the student.
The whole process he took is just only 2 Hrs.

Thats wat he debrief me after our lesson.
He said I'm always too focus on basic, but too detail = waste time.
Tis is wat he suggest me to do.
1. Revisit / Recap ===========
-Back to basic (Good), but too basic or detailed = waste time.
- Dont teach a 2star like 1star. They are expected to know basics. Let them tell me what they know.
2. Buliding Blk ==========
Pupose: Break down the skills, trainees can learn/ pick up easily.
Once they mastered, NOT necessary to break down the skills anymore.
Good buliding blk, but too much details
Leave out " Good to know", always teach the " Must know" 1st.
3. Enviromental Awareness ===================
Improvement
a. Selection of ground
b. Asses weather / condition
c. Condusive learning for trainee.
These are basics as a L1 trainer suppose to know well.
4. Do more (TRAINEE) , Talk less (TRAINER) ================================== At 2 star lvl, they do not required too much of thoery. We will confuse them if over feed.
5. Tell wat we know ============== If we unsure, dont fake them. Finf out and answer. Else dun even touch on topics are not provide answer to they question.
6. To improve my lesson plan guide lines ============================= > Revise 1star skills on day 1, it helps in day 2 expedition and revise/ add on if got time on final day.
7. Overall conclusion ===============
Improvement lesson plan, not forgetting building blk.
X- channel when expedition always try to aim for the shortest to closed over.
Select enviroment if weather or training ground affects lesson plan and be flexible.
Go back to take 1 star before take 2star again to improved my enviromental awareness and lesson requirement to the student further, it will help for my next 2star coaching.
Also re see the 2star coz one more time, and prepared for next coming attachment and assesment with wilson.
